Options such as -g for gcc are what I call debugging options, where can be either nothing, or a number (usually between 1-3 for my implementation of gcc 2.7.2.1 under MS-DOS (DJGPP). Hope that makes it a little clearer what I meant - gee my system is slow, I guess that means (by definition) that I must be slow too: I missed out on this faux-pas...
