I said what I did to avoid additional confusing explanations.  :-)

Wouldn't it also be possible to deactivate numeric tails in the registry
before you create the directory with the long name, thus making the long
and short names functionally identical?  This is the recommended way to
unpack the Emacs distribution, for example.
