I used ls to give a quick and dirty example of the problem, so other persons in this NG could more easily check the behaviour. Code snippets, even when short, require people to copy, paste to an editor, compile, run, analyse the result(s), and report back. In the last paragraph of my post, I mentioned that this was the same behaviour I 'm experiencing when we use fnsplit and fnmerge, where the problem was detected at first at all. Anyway, for the information of the NG, the Tom's suggestion worked in our environment, and since that by now the programs using this feature are to be used internally in this dept. the workaround suffices. Again thank you for advising it is not a universal solution. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Cesar Scarpini Rabak E-mail: csrabak AT ipt DOT br DME/ASC Phone: 55-11-268-3522 Ext.350 IPT - Instituto de Pesquisas Tecnologicas Fax: 55-11-268-5996 Av.
