Almost anyone who uses Sun workstations uses gcc because the supplied compiler is barely K&R (original) compatible (it's designed only to be able to rebuild and relink the kernel and drivers), which includes a number of engineering sites. And again from experience I know that a lot of expensive 'professional' compilers, especially those for embedded systems, have very serious bugs. I know at least two companies who went over to using gcc instead of the proprietary compilers... Chris C
