I hadn't so much time yet, but I found already, that there is an
asuumtion of forward slashes when computing a temp name from
the original name by scanning backwards for a '/'.  I will take
a deeper look at it when I have the time.

BTW:

strip d:\prog.exe

works, but only if it is executed on drive d:
