From what I understand, the patches were abandoned because they were causing vast amounts of confusion for people. Applying them in the wrong order (I did this, btw); applying m4 but not m1, 2, or 3; applying them and then downloading an original package, etc. It just got too difficult to keep track of everything. In any case, the upgrade to v2.01 was more of a general upgrade, because it affects nearly every DJGPP-compiled program.
