DJGPP is derived from gcc on Unix systems, not the other way around. :) Because Allegro is a low-level, hardware-oriented library, there is no port to any Unix system, nor would such a port be possible without a tremendous amount of work. The closest thing around to a truly platform-independent graphics library is svgalib, and I've heard horror stories about getting it to work right.
