Frankly, I'm amazed at how little the Synthetic Audio Library is mentioned. It works under djgpp, linux, win95 directsound, etc. Support for tons of sound formats. Integrates fine with Allegro (without the need for special versions). Free for use with freeware projects, cheap to use with shareware projects.
