In some 80% of all cases mail is by way > faster.So, I wouldn't consider this ``peculiar'', but rather a ``kind of I've found that most of the time, it's a good thing, you get a email letting you know someone did respond, and personally, it gives me something to look forward to in the newsgroup. Unless the matter is life or death, but hey, what could possibly be that important?, I generally wait until I see the article in the newsgroup before responding, by then, several other people may have made responses to the post which generated the email. Then, I can make a more informed response, or have a more detailed question to ask. Also, unless the matter is pressing, I'll generally 'follow up' over 'both' unless the subject requires 'reply'.
