But do you really think that guys from iD will give their latest sources to all registered users? It's a kind of advanced technology, and it costs > $40. INet pirates stole v1.01, and since that iD made a lot of modifications (take a look to doxes in q101-106.zip file). The thing that they wasn't carriful with their ftp serv is sad for them, but hey! Their code is stolen, but their heads (especialy John Carmark head ;) ) is still with them :) So, I will not be surprised if after a year they will release something even greater then Quake (they constantly keeps a delta in their productions: Wolf3d - Keen = Doom - Wolf3d = Quake - Doom = ??? - Quake ;) What I really expect is a lot of brainles Quake-like shareware games with ugly graphics and stupid levels... But still Quake is unique and great. (I speaking about gfx engine, I don't enjoy playing it).
