On my Supra 14.4, S register 30 is an inactivity timer.  Depending on the mode,
either a lack of input, lack of output, or both will cause the modem to
automatically disconnect after a configurable amount of time has passed.

A more accurate analogy would be a sleep timer on a TV that turns off the TV
after an hour of use.
