(Fortunately it creates the bak-file > .xx~) i use ispell a lot and i had no problem at all. please check if your c:\djgpp\djgpp.env has been updated to recognise ispell. the instructions are in one of the readme files. incidentally i did have problems in running ispell from within my configured tex editor, but that was more because of my editor configuration not being proper.
