True, but it was an off-the-top-of-the-head example and, besides, I was
talking about passing filenames out of DJGPP (actually gnu-win32) into some
native DOS tool.

Let's see...I need to be using the MSVC compiler for one project; I'm also
using a 3rd party tool to take an input file and generate some C code to do
RPC client/server stuff.  I don't have the source to the product, so there's
not much I can do about that one.
