Be happy and try 'StarOffice'. It is a BIG (> 40 Mbyte) office system for Windows/Os2/ and (!) Linux. Can read and - i think - write WinWord and Excel files. I have a beta version of it on a CD from some computer magazine. IMHO the Linux version is free... (I can't recall the web address, so please search for it.)
