Your problems might be causes by the long filenames issue on Windows 95. Did you try this on Windows 95? If so, did you try to set LFN=n from the DOS prompt? (The problem with finding "makefile" might also be caused by the long filename support.) The current DJGPP port of GNU Make is incompatible with long filenames. If the above doesn't help, then here are some more questions: What program did you use to unzip and untar the source distribution of Binutils? Where did you get the Binutils source distribution? It might also help if you invoke Make with -d switch and submit everything it prints (yes, I know, it's *very* voluminous, so use `redir').
