There's Elvis 2.0 which is currently in beta test. Saw an announcement
just yesterday in comp.editors that 2.0r beta has just been released.

Elvis is quite vi-like but with tons of useful extensions, including
color syntax highlighting. Look for the sources (and a DOS executable,
too, I believe) at:
