The general opinion is that it is all caused by the microsoft news server
doing the unheard of, accepting posts, assigning them a NEW ID, and posting
them to the ms-news groups.  These get read by other news servers and
posted (again) as new articles.

Seach for "microsoft" or "UPPSSNEWS" to find the threads.
