The goal is to create a FREE portable hardware emulator that will emulate a 68k based Macintosh. vMac will only require the ROM image file from your Macintosh and a copy of your MacOS. How is vMac being developed? Two words: by you. vMac source code will be publicly availiable for you to update and modify. vMac is being developed in the same spirit as Linux. If you see something you want added to vMac then add it. vMac is currently being developed using DJGPP v.2.0. If your interested in being apart of such a project please e-mail me. There is more than enough for you to do :) Isn't there already a Mac emulator out called Executor? Yes. Executor is great. Executor is very fast at running the programs it is capable of running, but it's not a pure Macintosh hardware emulator. For example, you can't take a copy of MacOS and and install it on Executor. With vMac will(read vaporware) be able to take your 1.44MB MacOS disks or MacOS CD-ROM and install it. This can be done because as far as the MacOS is concerned it is on a real Macintosh. Another example: Chances are you will never be able to install the 68k version of Linux on Executor without ALOT of modifications. On vMac you will be able to load 68k Linux or any future system that can run on a 68k Mac.
