Some weeks ago I had some time and I wanted also build the cross compiler Linux->DOS. I did exactly all the instructions from the FAQ and I had success. After this I had also build a native DJGPP compiler with the cross compiler. I think you did something wrong (not exactly what was mentioned in the FAQ).
