Well here are some good news! I have been hacking away after Linux svgalib these last few weeks trying to get it to work under DOS / Windows. Here are the highlights: VGA driver: works great. Restoring text mode: accurate. Cirrus driver: flawless ( I think ). Linear frambuffer: surprising ( it even searches for the address). Memory mapped register access: works too. Access to video memory using regular C pointers: unchanged. I will make it available as soon as I get to the university. Lots of work still has to be done, especially for drivers for video cards that I don't have. If you would be interested in helping, mail me (moisemih AT ift DOT ulaval DOT ca). Cheers!
