Not entirely... you could use Make variables and conditionals to create a makefile that would work one way under DOS and another way under Unix, based on the definition of a variable. However, since so much of what Make does is dependent on the shell program that it uses, there is no way to make the commands themselves 100% portable. Quite simply, Unix sh works differently than DOS command.com, and Make can only use what it is given to work with. John
