It appears to be broken and irreparable. I'm suspicious of DIFF because I had this working with the version of DIFF that I compiled. Unfortunately, I haven't got an old copy of the source. It appears that DIFF does not respond the way it used to with the switch combination diff -an --binary - /tmp/D1aaaa where the diff is taken of the standard input and the temporary file. I played with the switches to see if I could coerce it to behave. When I dropped the 'a', diff displays a boolean message whether or not there are differences. RCS expects to see differences. So, Eli, did something change in the DIFF source? Marc
