No, it is not appropriate...

but I think that your system configuration may be your problem.

Depending on youe machine, you may have to press a key combination
(like CTRL-ALT-Keypad-minus) or go into your system bios configuration
(pressing ESC or F1 or DEL during boot)

check your computer's manual....
