How on earth? I thought so far gcc could only optimize > for 486 (-m486)?.. Or maybe they meant something like `manual optimization'? Probably, they mean that the inner loops of all their graphics routines (which are certainly written in assembly language) are optimised for Pentium processors. The -m486 option only specifies that C code will be 486-optimised; GCC never touches your assembler stuff. > P.S. QUAKE kixx ass! Though the damn turtle messed around my screen most of the > time. I was also very glad to find out guys from Id like Nine Inch Nails (see > the flechettes boxes!). Man, do I love this band. I heard an unconfirmed rumour (from a NIN fan) that the band, or some member of the band, is/are producing the music for the game. Don't get too excited though; it could be completely untrue. I agree that Quake is extremely cool (runs a bit crap on my 486DX4/100/8MB but I'm upgrading to a P5-75/16MB tomorrow - can't wait to try it out) - Andy | Andrew Molyneux Internet: molyneua AT cs DOT man DOT ac DOT uk | University of Manchester Tel : (+44)161-485-3291 | REAL programmers write a=b!=4?b%2?c:d:e without even | thinking about it :-)
