BIOS functions aren't effected by `assign' (which only hooks Int 21h), so if you say ``assign a=c'', the function still tries to see if there's a disk in drive A:, and if not, won't report anything about drive A:. However, if you *do* put a disk there, it is correctly reported as "C:/" (`getmntent' says it's a `subst' drive, but that's ok, since `append' and `subst' are functionally the same). It's an easy fix to make `getmntent' fully support `assign'; I might do that for the next release. On the other hand, maybe whoever uses `assign' (to say nothing of assigning C: to A:, which means they immediately lose their PATH to DOS and other programs) just deserves to be punished?...
