Date: Sat, 27 May 1995 21:39:11 -0400 From: dj (DJ Delorie) To: djgpp AT sun DOT soe DOT clarkson DOT edu Subject: newsgroup <-> mailing list gateway info As hinted at in the newsgroup proposal, the gateway between comp.os.msdos.djgpp and djgpp AT sun DOT soe DOT clarkson DOT edu will work like this: * Any messages mailed to the mailing list will automatically be posted to comp.os.msdos.djgpp. The gateway attempts to remove "subscribe" messages. * At regular intervals, the news server is scanned for new articles, and any found are mailed to the mailing list. This will probably happen hourly. * Any messages that are gateway'd are tagged to avoid looping. Thus, you should read either the mailing list OR the newsgroup, but not both, since they will have the same articles in them. My hope is that many people will switch to the newsgroup to ease the load at Clarkson, as they have been complaining about it. The djgpp-announce mail also goes to the djgpp subscribers; subscribers to djgpp-announce should remain subscribed to it, but the postings will end up at the newsgroup eventually also. I am also considering adding daily/weekly/monthly digestifiers to provide an alternate scheme for people. Opinions to dj AT delorie DOT com ONLY, please.
