Date: Tue, 16 May 1995 12:43:10 +0900 From: Stephen Turnbull To: DJGPP AT Sun DOT SOE DOT Clarkson DOT EDU Subject: Header re-writing I think this one deserves a public apology. Yes, my face is red. Thanks to all who pointed out, rather politely given the tone of my own message, that RFC 822 says something completely different from what I said. I have read RFC 822 through several times recently, and somehow conflated the rather more specific directives concerning "From:" and "Sender:" with the "Reply-To:" specifications. I was answering mail offline and didn't have the text of the RFC in front of me, mea maxima culpa. (That means this week I'm only 9 for 10---of 10 really stupid flames I wrote this week, one actually escaped to the mail system. :( ) However, despite the specific example in RFC 822, I still think it's a bad idea for most mailing lists, including DJGPP. I've stated most of my reasons (which are still based on RFC 822, this time not improperly interpreted :) before, so I won't repeat them. -- Stephen Turnbull / Yaseppochi-gumi / http://turnbull.sk.tsukuba.ac.jp/ anon FTP: turnbull.sk.tsukuba.ac.jp Check out Kansai-WWW, too ------------> http://pclsp2.kuicr.kyoto-u.ac.jp/
