He worked on the brand-new (just FAA-approved) 777. All (well, most) of their cabin-management software was done with GNU. This is the system that controls air-conditioning, turns seat lights on/off, call the flight attendant, adjusts volume on the headphones, etc. All in all about 100k lines. He has an interesting anecdote about trying to explain to the bean-counters that they were using _free_ tools.
