No, it couldn't, because conventional memory is close to irrelevant to go32 (if you're having enough to run 3 nested go32's and are not planning on recursive calls of make, that is). > > > You might also try without RAMDRIVE at all. If you have a disk Yes! *Do* try it! FYI, this is my guess at the perhaps configuration for getting short compile times on "normal" machines, having enough MB's inside (and no QEMM available): HIMEM EMM386 RAM FRAME=NONE [other flags perhaps] ^^^^^^^^^^ Beware! may sometimes cause trouble! SMARTDRIVE C+ XXXX set TEMP={some dir on your fastest drive having free space >4MB} set TMP=%TEMP% set GO32TMP=%TEMP% (Reasons for this choice can be given, if someone wants to know) > [...] > > Incidentally, I still use an old mono monitor and Hercules compatible > video. (You should really get one of those cheapo SVGA's, IMHO: they're so cheap that some vendors might even throw them at your back for not shutting their shops doors! :-) Some other guesses off the top of my head: Did you try to put all the necessary files (info.exe, go32.exe and some info files) from your harddisk to a floppy, take them to a friend's machine and try them out there? This might help to find out if the problem is a your-machine-only one (That friend should have a machine sufficiently different from yours, of course) Forgive my lossy brain, but I don't remember having seen a copy of a complete description of your machine (hard and soft), on the list, so could you please mail that info to me? I did the initial port of info.exe to DJGPP, and therefore still feel a bit responsible to keep it running, so I really want to have this wed out. > Bill Davidson > bdavidson AT ra DOT isisnet DOT com > Hans-Bernhard Broeker (softbrek AT POOL DOT Informatik DOT RWTH-Aachen DOT DE or) (Broeker AT axpmgr DOT physik DOT rwth-aachen DOT de )
