From: Steve Holmes Subject: Compiling GNU's tar-1.11.2 with djgpp To: djgpp AT sun DOT soe DOT clarkson DOT edu Date: Thu, 25 Aug 1994 09:30:30 -0700 (PDT) Hey, I'm trying to compile tar originally taken from the gnu ftp site called tar-1.11.2.tar.gz. I took the generic makefile and changed the variables so it could conform to my msdos setup on my pc. When I run make and start the compiler, I seem to get a lot of conflicting typedefs particularly in port.c and port.h (both a part of the tar package). There are a number of DEFS that can be defined in the makefile and I'm not sure which of those I should be using either. Too bad the generic gnu configure script don't work for DOS. This did come with a makefile for Borland/Turbo C but when I compiled with that, I got a bunch of undefined symbol errors in the getdate module. I think I had a problem there with the getdate.y used in conjunction with getdate.c. I think it uses some kind of yacc or bison procedure - I no absolutely nothing about that part of it! Sorry for the rambling, but I'm trying to get a good version of tar to run on my pc and I would like to be able to compile it with either djgpp or BC. Thanks for the help.
