Date: Wed, 1 Jun 94 08:44:16 JST From: Stephen Turnbull To: djgpp AT sun DOT soe DOT clarkson DOT edu Subject: Old problem (Thanks, I didn't need to say that; and you were more polite...) Bob Babcock quoted: > How about including a WP/text version of all the documentation... > I went nuts playing with TEX and I never want to touch it again, > I would have much prefered my dox in a more standard format. and replied: I'll bet the people who create the documentation feel the same way about WP as you feel about TeX. I believe that at least some of the documentation has been posted to omnigate in postscript format. and I add: According to the FSF TeXInfo *is* the standard. BTW, the location of the Postscript version is gs257ps.zip and some other ?????ps.zip files on ftp://omnigate.clarkson.edu/pub/msdos/djgpp/pub/. While you're at FTP, why don't you get the list archives from ftp://sun.soe.clarkson.edu/pub/msdos/djgpp/djgpp*, and you'll discover that the docs issue has been around for a long time. Further, the PS docs were kindly provided via the hard work of a couple of frustrated users like you, and also Un*x-style man pages are around somewhere (also volunteer-generated). Here's your personal invitation to Join the Development Effort! Docs are less important than the product in getting started, but more important in dissemination and long-term success.... (PS. My own FAQ project is coming along slowly and haltingly; but I'm through with the team-taught course in which I had to discipline senior faculty in a language I don't speak very well ;-) Maybe someday soon (Saturday...) I can get some serious work done). +-----------------------------------------------------------------------+ | Stephen Turnbull | | University of Tsukuba, Institute of Socio-Economic Planning | | Tennodai 1-chome 1--1, Tsukuba, Ibaraki 305 JAPAN | | Phone: +81 (298) 53-5091 Fax: +81 (298) 55-3849 | | Email: turnbull AT shako DOT sk DOT tsukuba DOT ac DOT jp | | | | Founder and CEO, Skinny Boy Associates | | Mechanism Design and Social Engineering | | REAL solutions to REAL problems of REAL people in REAL time!
