I realized I missed a step there in talking about Info portability problems. The problem is only going to occur if you move Unix-generated Info files to DOS systems, then edit them with a munging DOS editor. But for the typical DOS cow, this is the sensible thing to do--- they don't know how to [NTG]ROFF man pages or TeXInfo Info files. (And don't say that DJGPP ought to do it; that's not a complete solution either. *I* would have ended up in the same state even so: When I first started in this business, I got the absolute essentials from the abysmally slow OMNIGATE, and sources and FSF docs from WUARCHIVE's GNU mirror. I know several people who get DJGPP transPacific from SIMTEL, and get their Japanese language docs locally from the Fujitsu/Sun Unix box. Sorry, you just can't solve the problem by your lonesome.) --Steve
