I omitted to discuss the real-mode gcc. Paul, thanks for drawing my attention to this. In my experience, the real-mode gcc didn't help the memory problem. Perhaps I configured it wrong and it wasn't swapping itself out, perhaps it doesn't know how to swap itself out. Anyway, it didn't help. It was originally intended to fix some DPMI-related problem with Windows, so it may not know how to swap itself. --Steve
