I have finally solved the problem with the help of the good Mr. Delorie himself. (Many thanks). I don't know if it is common knowledge or not so I will close the loop by explaining what exactly was going wrong. It seems that there are 2 copies of the bnu22bn.zip file floating around. The copy that I originally got from wuarchive.wustl.edu was the binary utilities for DJGPP 1.10. The copy on oak.oakland.edu was the newer version for DJGPP 1.11. Apparently these two versions are incompatible. When I took a close look at the zip files I could see that, yes indeed, they were different sizes. I'm not sure what makes them incompatible, however. Anyway, that was the problem. It has been solved. (In my case at least). It does raise a question, however. Are there any more incompatible files on wuarchive. If so, which ones. I ran all the tests in the 'tests' subdirectory and everything seems to be working just fine so I assume that there are no problems. I might still have a few surprises waiting for me, though. Oh, well. Thanks again to all who responded. Mark. Use Proportional Font: true
