There is a C library, Giflib, you can find in any SIMTEL20 mirror,
try folders /pub/msdos/gif or /pub/msdos/c, which comes with
makefiles prepared for MS-DOS (tc) and for Un*x boxes (cc & gcc).
Once, I compiled it with djgpp, after makeing few changes to the
makefiles (I don't remember if I had to patch also the sources,
if I did it the patches where minimal) and it worked without
problems (well, the few programs I used worked, the other I don't
know :)
