From: kunst AT prl DOT philips DOT nl Subject: Porting to Desqview/X To: djgpp AT sun DOT soe DOT clarkson DOT edu (DJGPP users list) Date: Mon, 25 Oct 1993 17:48:23 +0100 (MET) Some people in our group use Motif/XWindows for GUI to their programs. I'm told that Desqview/X comes bundled with the DJGPP port of gcc. We have no experience in our group with Desqview/X (yet). I would like to hear from DJGPP users who have ported X-applications to Desqview/X and the possible problems encountered during the port. To avoid massive bandwidth on this list, I would like to ask to send your contribution directly to me, and I'll post a summary to this list. Some questions: - What do I need to compile X-Windows programs with Desqview/X ? (libraries, tools ?) - Are the following libraries provided/available: -lXm -lXt -lX11 ? Which other X-libraries are needed and/or provided ? - I know the people here use 'xdesigner' (on UNIX) for GUI design. If you have experience with this product too: Can the generated code be compiled directly by DJGPP ? - Can you give a (rough) time estimation on the total time required for porting an application to Desqview/X ? Or just recompile ?!? - Any (known) omissions in the Desqview/X libraries ? How about limiations on program size and/or data size ? - Do you know of (public domain) X-applications which have been ported to Desqview/X ? I have seen ports of XV and TGIF on SIMTEL. - Personal experiences... All contributions are much appreciated ! .^^^^^^^^ _____________________________________ | | / Pieter Kunst (P.J.) \ | _ _| / Philips Research Laboratories, \ .--(o)(o) / Building WY3, Prof. Holstlaan 4, \ |@ _) / 5656 AA Eindhoven, The Netherlands. | | ,___| / e-mail: kunst AT prl DOT philips DOT nl / | / \_______________________________________________/ /____\
