	To those of you who replied to my plea about static members,
	thanks for the help.  I have two C++ books, (Bjarne and 'C++,
	A Guide for C Programmers' by some dude called Hekmatpour) and
	neither of them mentions this requirement in any way that two
	of us could determine.  I guess it must be obvious :-)

	My Bjarne is the 1986 edition, which make be his excuse.  Hek
	suffers greatly from having a tiny index.

	This prompts me to ask: which is your favourite book for the
	C++ novice?
