Subject: GNU awk To: djgpp AT sun DOT soe DOT clarkson DOT edu (DJ's GPP mailing list) Date: Sat, 27 Feb 93 13:56:20 EST From: Stephen Turnbull I've been using GNUish gawk for a while, and I've just run into an application that requires more space. Darrell Hankerson mentioned an OS2/DOS (emx?) port allegedly available at hobbes.nmsu.edu quite a while back on this list. I was able to connect anonymously to hobbes, but did not have read permissions on any of the directories. I sort of knew what to look for, so was able to navigate down to /pub/os2, but got stuck there. This sounds like a security precaution, so unless someone knows better I'm going to assume that route is closed. Does anyone know of a port that's available? And where? I'm in the process of trying to do the port myself. It looks like it should be fairly easy (I'm 90% done, so I should only have to put 3 or 4 times as much time more as I've already put in :-). The main hangup is lack of pipe support, but the Robbins/Deifik (GNUish?) port for MSC 5.1 includes a promising-looking kludge for simple MS-DOS-style "pipes." When successful, I will run the test suite, ask Greg Higgins if I can make it available on ftp.math.niu,edu, and make an announcement to this list (djgpp-announce). I'm also looking at a number of possiblities for supporting real pipes under DV/X. More about that later. In the meantime, if you have been working on pipes for your own DV/X applications (I know that soembody's working on GhostView, for example), or know of anyone who has done this, we ought to get together to try and make this more or less standard. (Since we can't get at MS-DOS, and QOS doesn't provide a pipe() facility in the RoadMap, I would guess these are going to be pretty kludge-specific.) I'm also going to contact QOS tech support. If you're interested, please reply to *me*, not the list. -- Stephen Turnbull The Ohio State University, Department of Economics 410 Arps Hall, 1945 N.
