DJGPP has no support for signals, so you will have to watch out for that. With regard to a homework assignment, why not try flex-2.3.7 and bison-1.19? Flex is real easy to port using DJGPP. Bison should also be fairly easy, with the added benefit that you could upload the result to a DJGPP archive site such as math.niu.edu and we could have a newer bison than version 1.16.
