(see 5 below) I set it up as directed, then 2) cd/djgpp/samples/compress (dj's sample compress program), typed make, and it worked. 3) I then pulled f2c off of netlib. It was in compressed .Z format. My freshly built compress utility (-d option) uncompressed it correctly. I made C code from a fortran package with it. (I haven't been able to compile the code yet with gcc, but that's to do with the f2c code, not the g++ compiler.) 4) I think dj has a tar utility in the distribution somewhere -- I haven't needed it yet. 5) CAWF from simtel generated acceptable man page output from the xxx.1 stuff in the docs directory.
