I think system() would work. I'm using it. Maybe you missed it when
doing the nm through the libraries. Did you use the correct nm? (the one
in your dj/bin directory) I trapped often into using the wrong nm (one
from my \bin directory which contains a different nm) and when doing 
a nm libc.a | grep pattern you miss it.
