You can be quite sure that I built Make with a slightly modified libc; I can provide the list of changes if that's required. But I don't think any of the changes pertained to invoking subsidiary programs. And, as I wrote elsewhere, I don't fully understand the problem anyway, so I cannot say anything intelligent about whether the library changes could cause that.
