I saw that Debian never shipped 2.8.1, they just provide 2.7.2 and egcs and they explicitly said that they are switching to egcs as default for C and C++ (in 2.0 was gcc for C and egcs for C++). I really don't like this move but this is a fact. Linux is switching to egcs and dropping gcc. On the topic of the thread: 1) I don't like the headers solution. 2) When I installed djgpp 2.02 and gcc 2.8.1 I was forced to touch the specs. We currently have this problem, users installing 2.8.1 and removing %DJDIR%/lib/specs (as the readme says) have MINOR=1 and not 2. So the solution should be applied to the gcc 2.8.1 distribution too ... looks all a mess. I can't suggest a solution.
