Is it because people don't have enough time to review the patches? In particular it seems like this could integrated separately: "4) regex library: Fixed char signedness problems, changed to use results returned by ctype.h functions in alnum, alpha, blank, cntrl, digit, graph, lower, print, punct, space, upper, xdigit classes, eliminated warnings, fixed few memory leaks." I seem to remember that you posted a patch for this a while ago and that there were some comments. Maybe it would be worth posting a new patch?
