You can find the information of the original platform in the strace.log. Anyway, I can observe the same problem on NT4.0 Sp6a and Win2k SP1 each with Cygwin DLL 1.3.3 and cygwin1.dll built from the latest CVS source. If the problem depends on my platform, the dependence would be the size of my /etc/passwd.
