"accept from > RC> unauthorized server". This one is my fault. The server was blocking (by intent for testing) after accept on the first socket, and the second socket never had accept called on it. That caused the timeout. It may be reflective of a bugin the security code however - but it certainly does work on 95 :}. The reason I wasn't getting what I wanted traffic wise was a typo elsewhere..
