If they change the /cygdrive parameter then /cygdrive/boot/windrive (or whatever) follows along with it. That was the whole philosophy behind making /cygdrive available. I don't have a problem with the user changing this on their machine. Presumably they know what they're doing if they do that. We didn't use /dev for the same reason that it is, IMO, not appropriate for this use. The /dev mountpoint is supposed to refer to "devices" it's not supposed to be gateway into a hierarchical filesystem. cgf
