Since the other packages already set the precedence I think that the
-src.tar.gz file should have the patch already applied.  The diff file, if
supplied, could then be applied in reverse mode to obtain the original source. 
However, IMO, the supplied diff file could become quickly obsolete with
multiple patches.  So, IDT that the diff file is a commodity that should be
given; i.e.: IDT, the diff file should be included.
