As Krzysztof has already correctly diagnosed, your compiler might not be
able to successfully create p5-programs. Although the kernel doesn't link
against libgcc it might link against something else ;)

How did you configure pgcc? If you configured it for i586 you most
probably found a bug. Could you then send me the assembly output that both
compilers generate for misc.c? (use the -save-temps switch which will
cause (p)gcc to leave the .s file containing the assembly code in /tmp).
